Tiruchirappalli or Trichy is located along the Cauvery River and is bounded by Salem, Perambalur, Namakkal and Ariyulur districts in the north, Pudukkotai, Madurai, Sivagangai and Dindigul in the south, Thanjavur District in the east and Karur District in the west.

Trichy is a major industrial centre in Tamil Nadu. It also has many educational institutions including NIT and IIM. The headquarters of the district is the city of Tiruchirappalli.

Road – Tiruchirappalli is at a distance of about 353 kilometres from Chennai. The district is connected by road to other major cities through a combination of National Highways (NH), State Highways (SH) and Major District Roads (MDR).

Rail – Trichy Junction forma a separate division of the Southern Railway. It is an important junction having direct trains to major cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Ernakulam, Mumbai, New Delhi etc. Trichy District has stations at Tiruchirapalli, Srirangam, Ponmalai and many other places that connects the towns and villages in the district.

Air – Tiruchirapalli International Airport is just 5 kilometres away from the city.
