Villupuram is the second largest district in the state of Tamil Nadu that lies between Trichy and Chennai national highways. Villupuram city forms the district headquarters. NH 45 from Chennai to Dindigul via Trichy passes through Villupuram city. The city is located 162 kilometres south of Chennai and 157 kilometres north of Trichy.
It is bordered by Cuddalore district in the east and south, Salem and Dharmapuri districts in the west and Thiruvannamalai and Kanchipuram districts in the north. The city has some very old and prominent places of worship.
